Why This Watch

The Datejust was the first self-winding wristwatch to show the date through a window on the dial, and the Cyclops lens that magnifies it arrived in 1953. It has been in continuous production ever since, which is why it is the most varied Rolex you can buy: fluted or smooth bezel, Jubilee or Oyster bracelet, steel, two-tone or gold, and dial colours from silver and champagne to mint green and Wimbledon. Introduced in 1945, the Datejust has been made in 28, 31, 36 and 41 mm, powered by self-winding Rolex calibers from the 1570 and 3035 through today's 3235 and 2236.

The references you will see most often here are five-digit 16014 and 16233 from the 1980s and 1990s, the six-digit 116234 and 116233, and the current 126234, 126300, 126333 and 126334.
