The Luminor is defined by the crown-protecting bridge that Panerai developed for Italian Navy divers in the 1950s, a lever that presses the crown against its gasket. The sandwich dial with luminous paint under cut-out numerals and the cushion case made it the oversized watch of the 2000s, and today it spans the slim Luminor Due to 47 mm 1950 cases. Introduced in 1950, the Luminor has been made in 40 mm (Luminor Due and Marina 40), 42 mm (Luminor Due 42), 44 mm (Luminor Marina, Base, GMT, Submersible) and 47 mm (1950 pieces), powered by in-house P.9000, P.9010, P.4000 and P.6000 calibers, with ETA-based OP movements in early 2000s pieces.
